In case some of you weren't aware of this: I am a huge Potterhead. And as today, January 31st, begins, it dawns on me just how deeply entwined these stories have been with my life.
It's funny, because when my Dad came back from a business trip with this book "he just knew I'd love", six-year-old me had no idea that she was about to be introduced to some of the best friends she'd ever have.
Fifteen years later, and I'm lying here. It's 1am on my mother's birthday, and Harry Potter has made something of a comeback into my life. The irony isn't lost on me that it was five years ago, on July 15th 2011, that Deathly Hallows Part 2 came out in cinemas... and my mum passed away. It's funny how life is cyclical like that; that day five years ago, I said goodbye to my childhood in more ways than expected. And now, years later, on yet another memorable date, it's come knocking again. I, for one, am thrilled to have more Potter in my life, and very excited to go on new adventures in the Wizarding World.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
As promised, I'm back from my mad week in Hogwarts, am already desperately missing the toasty Florida heat, and come armed with plenty of pictures for you guys to enjoy.
It was my second time to the amazing park, this time there because they opened the expansion (Diagon Alley) three months after my last visit, and I could not rest easy knowing I'd only just missed what would surely be another awesome addition to the already incredible world that Universal had brought to life with Hogsmeade.
The entire week was amazing beyond words, but I'm pretty sure one of the highlights of my week was being chosen in Ollivanders first thing on my birthday morning (oh yeah, the reason why I went there was because of the expansion, but the reason why everyone else came was because I was turning 21. Yay! The satisfaction of handing over my ID that first time on my birthday was something else, let me tell you), and getting my very own interactive wand made of yew, with unicorn hair core; I also got quite a kick out of texting my aunt at 7am that I was outside Leicester Square, then giggling madly to myself because it was 7am, I was still half asleep, and it occurred to me that I had just flown over an entire ocean, only to find myself outside a tube station again.
The expansion itself was breathtaking. They really outdid themselves with it, and even though the dragon doesn't hold a candle to the beauty of Hogwarts, it does have its' own unique quirks (handy hint and tip: don't stand directly under/in direct proximity to it for very long, or you will have the fright of your life).
And the train journey is truly something to behold. The best part, arguably, is crossing the wall between Muggle Kings Cross and Wizarding Kings Cross. If possible, try to get someone to film you going through, it looks really cool on video - but if that's not an option, make sure to stop for a bit and watch others go through before you do.
And the ride itself, Escape from Gringotts, is exhilarating to the last second. I'm not a big roller coaster fan myself, but absolutely loved this ride - it had just the right amount of coaster, mixed in with simulation, to make it good for both people who love roller coasters, and those who aren't too keen on them.
Having gone on it extensively (you won't believe the miracles of the singles line! It's a godsend, but do make sure to go through the full queue at least once, or you'll miss tons of fun stuff), I can say with absolute certainty that front row on the first cart is the place to be on that ride. The further back you get, the less awe-inspiring the effects are, because you can see all the heads in front of you, and it sort of takes away from the action going on in front of you -- unlike with Forbidden Journey, where, again, having been on it to exhaustion (less so this time around; I must have ridden that thing at least 100 times a couple of years ago), all four seats are pretty amazing, though the fourth seat is more likely to get sprayed by beasties.
That's my week for you guys. I'm going to go curl up in a ball and sleep for the next week, probably, but it was definitely worth it!

PSA & An Apology
Hello my lovelies!
First of all, I want to apologies for the lack of posts lately - I've been going crazy with deadlines at uni, but now I'm officially on Easter holidays, so I hope to get back to doing more reviews. Admittedly, I have re discovered the joys of fanfiction (my eyes hate me right now), and that's partly to blame too, but it's under control.
I have some fun stuff lined up for the blog in April, including an awesome guest post, so I hope you all stick around for that!
As for the PSA, it's also sort of a sounding board. I'm going to be in Orlando for my birthday next week (*happy dance*), and I'd be happy to write up a post with pictures, etc about the WWoHP, if you guys would be interested in seeing that? I'm assuming yes, because it's Harry Potter, but I thought I'd check, since it's so different from what I usually post.
I hope you guys have had a great month so far, and that you get drowned in chocolate for Easter! ;)

Shipping Saturdays #2: Why Poke a Sleeping Dragon?
Last weeks' winner of Shipping Saturdays was: Dorian Havilliard!
This will be a weekly addition to the blog. Basically, I talk about my favourite ship in a book/series, and then you guys get to vote on which favourite pairing of that book/series you prefer. If there are any couples you'd like me to talk about, let me know in the comments (along with what book they're from, in case I haven't read it yet!) and I'll add them to the list.

This is a controversial one, and it's rather a divider one, too. I'm tackling the big guns today, poking a sleeping dragon and talking Harry Potter. Keeping in mind that I started Potter when I was 6, and thought boys had cooties, let's dive in.
I've always, always, always been a devoted Harmony (Harry/Hermione) fan. I can see you pulling a disgusted face in the background. Yes, I know. Trust me, I know. But, to a six-year old, when a girl hugs a boy, she has got to want to marry him, because ew.
So, at age 7 (when the Chamber of Secrets movie came out), Hermione ran and hugged Harry. Ergo, they were going to get married. And that just sort of sat in the back of my mind since then, with me subconsciously rejecting the idea of Ginny/Harry and Ron/Hermione out of principle.
As an adult, I realise that Ron and Hermione's relationship is one of the best things of the series, because for once the hero doesn't end up with the sidekick. But, I also know that in all my similarities with Hermione, I'd kill Ron within a week of being married, so who knows.
So, yes, while I now recognise that there had been hints of Romione throughout the series, I also hold steadfast to my childhood belief that Harry and Hermione would have had a much happier marriage (plus, their couple name is Harmony. It says it all, really!).
Funnily enough, the fighting seems to mostly take place between Harmony and Romione, though I've seen some bizarre pairings out there - Draco, Snape, Dumbledore...
Vote and let me know which category you fit in, and feel free to drop a comment to defend your team!
The moment of truth: Harry or Ron?

Confessions of a Book Worm #2
The problem with "that's misogynistic" in relation to books. Oh yeah. I'm going there.See, I read somewhere quite some time ago that it was funny how, in the Victorian Era, when Jane Austen was writing, the girls in the books were portrayed as strong, independent women who knew what they wanted, and didn't let any man tell them what to do. Yes, they fell in love and married, but they didn't marry simply because it was what society expected them to do. And while it might be argued that really, Austen, the Bronte sisters and other women writers of the time were simply trying to out across the message that marriage wasn't all bad, we do have to recognise that very few women actually behaved like that at the time.
Even more ridiculous, this person thought, was the fact that, today, when women have, supposedly, gained equality to men (don't get me started on that supposedly. I could go on for days), the heroines in the books are Bella Swans, and Anna Steeles, who are only happy to let the man dictate their every move - the latter in a more... ahem, extreme way. This person believed that such books were a step back in the feminism fight, and were a disgrace to the world.
And this is where the problem lies. I'll be honest: I read Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed. Even more honestly: I liked them. The epitome of honesty: I would never, ever consent to a relationship like that. It's not for me. However, my main problem with Fifty critics is that they seem to be making a stink of the fact that the book is a Twilight fanfic, and must, therefore, be crap by default (since we're sharing, I'll admit to having been a Twilight fan. When I was 12. We grow up. When you're twelve, a perfect boy sounds... well, perfect. Today, if I met Edward, I'd likely kill him within the hour). Then they go on to call it "porn". I'm not very clear on what counts as porn in book terms. I only ever thought of porn in terms of movies before, so who the hell knows. Maybe it is. And guys buy those movies by the droves, don't deny it. So what's the problem about Fifty being porn, if that's what you want to call it? It might be because it became famous, and porn is usually considered something that should be kept hush-hush. But the main reason, as far as I can see, is that women are reading porn. God forbid! Women might be masturbating while reading Fifty Shades of Grey! The horror!
Yeah. Because, as a person who read all 3 books, I can safely say there are hot moments, even for a non-BDSM inclined person like myself. The thing is, there is also a solid character development, and interesting, if predictable, plot line. It's not just sex sex and more sex. So the comments about how Fifty is anti-feminist? Well. What exactly do people see in the book that is misogynistic? The fact that the man is the dom, and the woman is the sub? Just because a book about a dom woman and a sub man hasn't been written (or maybe it has - it's just not famous), doesn't mean it doesn't happen just as much as the situation presented in Fifty. In fact, if people had taken the time to read Fifty, they would know that in fact, there is such a relationship mentioned in the books. It's not in the forefront, but it is mentioned and acknowledged.
But if you hate Fifty on principle, let's look at other literary pieces. Richelle Mead's Dark Swan series have a really strong, independent and kick-ass heroine, Eugenie Markham. She kills the shit that gives you nightmares. She is badass. Feminist, right? Well. What if I told you she was in to bondage with her boyfriend? Does that instantly make her anti-feminist? NO. It makes her a well-rounded character, who likes things kinky in the boudoir. Nothing wrong with that. And there is no way in hell Mead can be called a misogynist.
Another example, and one which makes me even more incensed than the Fifty debacle: Harry Potter. I have seen and heard countless people say "it's misogynist, because the women are always secondary characters". Let me just point out that the series might be called 'Harry Potter', and Potter might be the Chosen One, but he would have died at the age of eleven without ever even knowing that it was Quirrell if not for Hermione. Ginny Weasley is the most powerful wizard in the entire Weasley family. Minerva McGonagall almost single-handedly decides to stand up against Voldemort in Deathly Hallows, and gives instructions to all other teachers about what to do. Molly Weasley kills Bellatrix. And Bellatrix herself probably kills more people than even Voldemort does. Personally, I'd be more scared if I met Bellatrix in a dark alley than I would be if I met Voldemort. Luna Lovegood is eccentric, but uncannily clever. Umbridge nearly destroys Hogwarts. I could go on. On the flip side, Ron is clumsy, Harry is dependent on Hermione, Fudge was too scared to face Dumbledore, so he sent Umbridge, who wasn't scared. The one thing the Weasleys wanted more than anything was a girl daughter.
So why, exactly, is it so easy for us to just turn and say "it's misogynist"? If you want a real example of misogyny, you should read Euripirdes' Medea. Misogyny is telling women they can't read a book because they might get aroused reading it. Misogyny isn't writing a book whose main character is a guy; it's treating the female characters as if they were not important simply because they're female. Misogyny is making women believe that wanting what they want and liking what they like - be it bondage, BDSM, vanilla, or becoming a nun - is wrong because they have to conform to men's expectations because they are the "fragile sex". Misogyny is demeaning women because they don't have a penis.
Misogyny does still happen, yes, but not half as much, at least in literature, as most people would have us believe.

Confessions of a Book Worm #1
Well now, I know I've been slacking in the review department lately, but it's common for me to have a rant about one book or another, or even about a TV series, or... just anything, really, about monthly. So, I've decided to start up a new thing on Book Worm. It's the Confessions of a Book Worm rant, in which I talk fictional characters and all other cool stuff.
I once saw this beautiful picture of all the most famous and loved contemporary books, and it said “I laughed with you, I believed in you, I followed you, I cried with you, I fought for you, I grew up with you, I was you, and all along you were never really there”. And while I started out reading this with a smile, the last sentence nearly made me cry.
It’s something I’ve been thinking about lately. To quote Tessa Gray in Cassandra Clare’s Clockwork Prince, “If no one knows you, do you even truly exist?”. And I wonder. Because I have friends. So, so many friends. But 90% of them live in my head. 30% of those 90%, I invented myself. The other 60%, other authors have given me. And they know me. They know me better than I know myself. And I did laugh, believe, follow, cry, fight and grow up with them. I was them, each and every one of them, for a short period of time.
But saying that they were never really there? Well, that’s akin to saying most of my life has been a lie.
What brought on the thinking I mentioned earlier was yet another quote. This one stated “Legitimately being unable to identify if a memory if yours or from a book character”. Now, at first glance, that sounds stupid. I mean, who could possibly confuse their own life with that of a fictional character, right?
The thing about books is just that: the really good ones are the ones that mess with your emotions, your thoughts and beliefs. And if they mess with those things, well, eventually, after countless of good books doing that to you, the emotions start to blur together. You remember what brought them on, and you remember the feeling - but that’s the thing. You never truly experienced what the character did, so those emotions can’t be yours, because you’ve never been through that. But you felt it.
So as the feelings blur, when something triggers a memory of that emotion, you feel it as strongly as if whatever happened to the character happened to you. So, yes, to an extent, you are the character. You experienced a little of life with them, and now, that part of them will always be within you. But how do you tell the difference, after thirteen years of “false” emotions piling up, how can you possibly tell the difference between an emotion or experience lived by you in the physical world from an emotion or experience lived by you as a character in a fictional world?
You can’t.
It is not possible.
Does that mean I’m going mad? Maybe.
Maybe not. But, as Lewis Carroll has said, “You know what? The best people are”.
So to those people who try to tell me that my friends aren’t real; that they aren’t there just because they’re fictional, well then, Dumbledore has something to say to you: “Of course it’s happening in your head... But why would that mean that it’s not real?”. And you’ll never convince me differently.

Pottermore

A few days ago, the entire Potterbase was abuzz with excitment over more than just the beginning of the midnight showing tickets for Deathly Hallows Part II.
Melissa Anelli (remember her? She the author of Harry, A History which I'm giving away right here!) tweeted about this special quest for 10 letters which would form a word that were supposed to give us a hint about this mysterious new announcment J.K. Rowling would do soon.
The fanbase fell on the news like a bunch of water-starved plants after four years in the desert, eager for that tingling of anxiety and uncertainty swirling around Rowling once more - and what was likely to be the last time with anything Potter-related.
By the end of the day, we had a word: Pottermore.
Tune in again in 5 days to know more about this mystery project of the woman who charmed the world, or follow Pottermore on twitter: @pottermore.

This is it! THE day of the opening of the Harry, A History giveaway, and I came to share a little more info on his this giveaway will work and what it entails.

Beneath these guidelines, I'll post my own testimony for what Harry Potter has meant to me through these 11 years of having it in my life.
Then every person wanting to enter, will have to write a comment on this post (comments on other posts will not be taken into account), with no more than the limit of words per comment box (in other words, only one comment per person), telling me what Harry Potter means to you. It can be how you discovered it, some life lesson the books gave you, the feelings you have at watching the definite end of the series draw ever closer... it's up to you. Just do it up nice.
On July 10th, me and a friend of mine will go through each entry and choose the ones that move us the most, narowing down the list of competitors. After that, we throw that smaller list into random.org which will then cough up a name.
Yes, it's international. If you fare better writing in portuguese, follow this link :)
The prizes:
-One copy of Harry, A History by Melissa Anelli
-One Harry Potter Magical Creatures bookmark
-Two Harry Potter bracelets.
Fingers positioned on your keyboards? Ready, set, WRITE! :D
When I was six, my Dad bought a copy of Philosopher's Stone on a trip back home from a congress, and he read the whole thing on the four-hour flight. He got home, and told me he thought I'd like it, and so he read it to me. He was wrong: I didn't like it; I absolutely loved it. I wanted the next one, and when we were done with that one, the next... that was when my Dad ran out of time to read it to me, and I, being seven by then, decided to take matters into my own hands and read Prisoner of Azkaban by my own little tod. It took me about three months, but when I was done, there was no holding me back.
My Mom insisted it was "Just a phase; in a few years, you'll forget it even exists." but I adamantly objected that, no, it wasn't, and please can I have the Harry Potter LEGO? And the lunch bag? And the themed party?
Finally, the years went by and it became clear Harry was a permanent fixture in my life; he was going absolutely nowhere at all.
I know nowadays, this is the utmost cliché of all, but to me, it's also the truth: I grew up with Harry. And I know, when I look at any Potter-related thing, that no matter where I go in the wordl, no matter what happens to me, what I do for a living, I'll always have my three biggest, best childhood friends with me, because Harry, Ron and Hermione... they're eternal.

Blog Kick-Off
It was about time I started the English version of my literary blog, Book Worm, centered mostly for Brazilian readers, and so thus was born Book Worm 2.0 in English.
And it's about to open with a bang: At the end of May, I'll open the biggest giveaway of the story fo Book Worm(s), and it's celebrating many things: one year of the original Book Worm, the birth of BW 2.0, and also a "Birthday of Death" of some sorts, in honor to the Harry Potter Saga.
So starting May 31st all the way to July 10th, I'll be hosting the giveaway of Melissa Anelli's (owner of the renowed Potter site The Leaky Cauldron) book, "Harry, A History."

Go, Harry <3

Meme: Como eu Leio

A AQUISIÇÃO:
Consigo.
O LOCAL DO CRIME:
2- Lê no trabalho?
2- Lê no trabalho?
AS INSANIDADES:

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, a perfeita Hermione.

1: Succubus On Top, Richelle Mead
2: Succubus Dreams, Richelle Mead
3: Succubus Heat, Richelle Mead
4: Succubus Shadows, Richelle Mead
5: Diário de um Anjo, Mandy Porto
6: Cidade dos Ossos, Cassandra Clare
7: Monster High, Lisi Harrinson

Why I Love Joanne Kathleen Rowling

Também de trailer, saiu algumas semanas atrás, o trailer de The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, que, novamente, segindo o exemplo do trailer de HP, ficou épico.
